Retro is in. At the meantime, Microsoft struggles against Apple’s new world. Apple has style and Apple has fans. That’s everything Microsoft Windows doesn’t have. Why not bring some Retro into Windows and make it stylish again, win some fans.
Here is my new idea, how to turn Microsoft Windows into a fan product: The new Windows OS should have a new name. Get rid of this controversially discussed and hated name “Windows”.
My suggestion. Buy the brand name Amiga and call it “Microsoft Amiga”. And Microsoft should announce it loudly: “Microsoft gives up Windows and brings up the new Amiga OS”. Of course, the new Amiga OS wouldn’t differ much from the original Windows. They’d just put some new Amiga elements in like the new Amiga-Symbol, Amiga+M-Function (instead of ALT+TAB). But the core would still be Windows. The Windows user wouldn’t care what name this thing has anyway. They never did. All the contracts with all the manufacturers would be the same, too. I mean, it’s just a new label, that’s all about it.
But here is the effect: It would be the most discussed topic in the history of Microsoft. Some would think Microsoft’s gone crazy, others that they are genius. It would be the greatest fan product of all time. Imagine what kind of discussions within the community this would cause. Totally amazed ex Amiga fans, who’d carry the word to the world causing the biggest Social Media Impact ever. Microsoft wouldn’t have to do much work, neither. Let the community do the work for them. Some would hate it, of course. But others would love it. “You see, Amiga was the best, even Microsoft uses it now”, they would say. It would be Retro, it would be Social Media, it would be viral. Imagine the chaos in the community. The controversy. The fame.
